Jerôme Noailly is a Tenure-Track Associate Professor at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC) of Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Barcelona. He leads the Multiscale and Computational Biomechanics and Mechanobiology (MBIOMM) group and serves as the Coordinator of the European project Disc4All (H2020-IT-ETN-955735). He also heads the Biomechanics and Mechanobiology Area at the Barcelona Centre for New Medical Technologies (BCN MedTech).
- Education: Bachelor in Physical Chemistry, Engineer and Master in Material Science, Master in Acoustics
- PhD in Spine Computational Biomechanics from UPC (2002–2009)
Research interests span multiscale computational modeling of biological systems, with a focus on biomechanics, mechanobiology, and tissue engineering. His work integrates medical image analysis, machine learning, and computational systems biology to explore musculoskeletal tissues and organs. His group has contributed to projects like My Spine (FP7-269909) and The Grail (FP7-278557).
Scientific awards and grants include:
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship
- Ramon y Cajal fellowship
- Best PhD Thesis award (UPC)
- Marie Curie reintegration grant
Teaching and leadership: He coordinates courses in biomechanics, biomaterials, and musculoskeletal modeling at UPF, including the bachelor’s in biomedical engineering. He is active in international societies, serving on the Executive Committee of the European Society of Biomechanics and chairing the Student Committee of the Virtual Physiological Human Institute.
