Professor Ross Wilkie is a Professor of Public Health and Epidemiology at Keele University's School of Medicine. He leads research on health surveillance, health inequalities, and work-related health, and serves as Director of Public Health programmes (including the Master of Public Health and Global Health Grand Challenge Pathway) and Deputy Director of the Keele Institute for Social Inclusion. His work focuses on musculoskeletal conditions, chronic pain, and extending healthy working life expectancy (HWLE).
- Education: Physiotherapy qualification (1992, Queens’ College, Glasgow), Postgraduate Diploma in Biomechanics (Strathclyde University, 1994), PhD in Epidemiology (2006).
- Key Research: Chief Investigator for PRELIM and MIDAS studies on musculoskeletal pain surveillance; HWLE projects funded by NIHR and Nuffield Foundation/Versus Arthritis.
Research Interests: Health surveillance methodologies, musculoskeletal epidemiology, work participation, and reducing health inequalities. Awards include the EULAR Health Professionals in Rheumatology Award (2019) and a Fellowship of the Faculty of Public Health (by distinction).
Teaching: Directs public health programmes and has developed online Master’s and undergraduate pathways. Grants and advising: Coordinates multi-funder initiatives and supervises students in epidemiology and public health.
Labs/Teams: Leads Keele Institute for Social Inclusion and collaborates with national/international networks like the Heberden Committee and British Health Professionals in Rheumatology.
