Dr. Rayan S. Fawaz is an Assistant Professor in Marketing (Strategy and Marketing) at the University of Sussex Business School. Holding a PhD in Marketing from King's College London, she specializes in understanding how prolonged disasters and reminders of death shape consumer responses and behaviors, particularly within Global South contexts. Her research also explores elite consumers, female entrepreneurs, and environmental stewardship for sustainable organizational outcomes.
Dr. Fawaz's research interests span Consumer Behaviour, International Marketing, Female Entrepreneurs, Elite Consumers, Luxury Consumption, and Environmental Stewardship with a focus on Global South contexts. Her work employs qualitative research methods to examine complex consumer responses to existential threats and crises, with particular emphasis on Lebanon and the broader Middle East region. She investigates how organizations can leverage environmental stewardship for more sustainable business practices while addressing inequalities.
Her recent publications demonstrate a clear trajectory examining consumer responses to disasters, women's entrepreneurship in crisis contexts, and luxury consumption patterns across Arab regions. The research shows increasing focus on poly-crisis environments, particularly studying women entrepreneurs' resilience following events like the Beirut Blast.
