Ravi Acharya is a Professor of Structural Biology at the University of Bath since 1998, with an Honorary Research Professor position at the University of Cape Town (2014-2019). He holds a PhD in Structural Chemistry from Bangalore University and has active collaborations across biophysics, enzymology, and pharmacology.
- PhD, Bangalore University (1982)
- Postdoc, Oxford University (1984-1990)
- Professor at University of Bath (1998-present)
- Honorary Research Professor, University of Cape Town (2014-2019)
His research focuses on structure-function relationships of disease-related molecules like angiogenin, VEGF, and ACE, using X-ray crystallography, computational modeling, and biophysical assays. Key projects include inhibitor design for tuberculosis and ACE-targeting pharmacological agents.
Recent work explores enzyme-cofactor versatility (GMHpaB), dual-domain ACE inhibition (2025 studies), and dipeptide recognition mechanisms in Drosophila and human systems. Techniques span protein engineering, high-throughput screening, and organoid models.
- Excellence in Doctoral Supervision Award (2012)
- Fellow of Royal Society of Biology (2011)
- Multiple research fellowships (Royal Society, Wellcome Trust)
His 294 research outputs reflect expertise in enzyme active sites, glycosyltransferases, and clostridial toxins, contributing to SDGs via education and drug discovery.
