Dr. Ranella Anthi is a Principal Researcher at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL-FORTH), leading the Tissue Engineering – Regenerative Medicine and Immuno-engineering Lab (TERMIM Lab). She holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Crete (2005) and focuses on biophysical processes at the molecular/cellular level, biomaterial-cell interactions, and clinical applications of tissue scaffolds. Her interdisciplinary work employs advanced fabrication techniques like laser-based micro/nanoengineering and bioprinting to develop functional biomaterials.
Research interests include tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, immuno-engineering, and biophotonics. Key innovations involve 3D-printed scaffolds for nerve repair, 4D metamaterials, and hydrogel systems derived from amniotic membranes. Her lab employs a multidisciplinary team of postdocs and students from diverse scientific backgrounds.
Publications highlight advancements in scaffold design, mechanotransduction mechanisms, and drug delivery systems. Two patents and 39 peer-reviewed papers (Scopus h-index: 18) reflect her contributions to biomaterials and cell-material interactions. She actively reviews for journals in her field and has pioneered laser-fabricated biomaterials for therapeutic applications.
