Eben Alsberg is the Richard and Loan Hill Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago, affiliated with the Departments of Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine, and Orthopaedic Surgery. He directs the Alsberg Stem Cell & Engineered Novel Therapeutics (ASCENT) Laboratory, focusing on biomaterials for tissue regeneration and stem cell engineering.
- Education:
- Postdoc, Harvard Medical School (2005)
- PhD, Biomedical Engineering, University of Michigan (2002)
- M.S.E., Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, University of Michigan (1998)
- B.S.E., Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science, Duke University (1994)
His research interests span innovative biomaterials, 4D bioprinting, mechanotransduction, and stem cell fate regulation. Recent work emphasizes 4D printing, hydrogel design, and vascularized tissue engineering, showcasing applications in bone, cartilage, and salivary gland regeneration.
His lab has received recognition through fellowships from the National Academy of Inventors, AIMBE, and other leading institutions. Collaborative projects highlight bioink development, dynamic scaffold design, and organoid modeling.
Alsberg advises Evan Cheevers (PhD student), Sarah Maggipinto (MSTP student), and supports postdoctoral researchers like Dr. Kaelyn Gasvoda. His lab integrates biofabrication and mechanical signaling to advance regenerative medicine.
