Randal Thurston

Randal Thurston is a Professor & Chair in the Art & Design Department at Suffolk University, also serving as Program Director for Foundation Studies & Fine Arts. He holds an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts / Tufts University and a BFA from Southeastern Massachusetts University. His teaching philosophy emphasizes fostering students' individual creative voices through rigorous critique and mastery of art history and technical skills.

Recent professional highlights include participations in exhibitions such as the Green Line Extension Integrated Art Program (2014), Still Life Lives! at Fitchburg Art Museum (2013), and Contemporary Drawing with South Coast Connections at New Bedford Art Museum (2012). His work has been featured in institutions across Massachusetts, including the Concord Art Association and Laconia Gallery.

Thurston teaches courses ranging from foundational drawing and painting to advanced studio practices, including Figure Studio: 2D and Advanced Drawing Issues. His pedagogical approach integrates historical awareness with contemporary studio methods to cultivate self-critical artistic development.
