Jacob Fossum is an Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at Bard College at Simon's Rock, part of the Division of the Arts. His academic focus spans color theory, figure painting, and contemporary drawing, with research interests in idol worship and evolution. He holds an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art (2007) and a BFA from Utah State University (2004).

His artistic practice includes oil painting (bridging old master and contemporary techniques), figure drawing, and 2D/3D design. Fossum has exhibited widely, with solo shows at Hillman Jackson Gallery (Great Barrington, MA) and Burkelman Gallery (Cold Spring, NY), and group exhibitions at institutions like The Walters Art Museum (Baltimore) and the Berkshire Museum (Pittsfield, MA). He has completed residencies in Iceland, Ireland, and Wyoming.
Publications include contributions to Studio Visit, Submerge, and Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought. Alongside teaching since 2011, he engages in music, songwriting, fiber arts, and sculpture. His interdisciplinary approach reflects a commitment to narrative-driven art and the intersection of creative disciplines.
