Dr. Raina Brands is an Associate Professor and Lead for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) at the School of Management, University College London (UCL). She previously held faculty positions at London Business School and Judge Business School (University of Cambridge). Her work focuses on social networks and gender stereotypes to address organizational inequalities, including leadership dynamics, career persistence in underrepresented fields, and bias mitigation strategies. Brands has also founded Career Equally, an organization dedicated to de-biasing careers for women.
Raina Brands holds a BA and MA in Psychology (Honours I, University Medal) from the University of Queensland, Australia, followed by an MPhil and PhD in Management from the University of Cambridge. Her research has been featured in top management journals and widely covered in media outlets like The New York Times, Financial Times, and Glamour Magazine.
Her research explores two key streams:
1. Gender stereotypes' impact on social networks and their consequences for women's performance and reputations.
2. How social networks shape women’s responses to gender stereotyping in relational organizational settings.
