Rahul Sagar is the Laurence S. Rockefeller Visiting Professor for Distinguished Teaching at Princeton University (2024-25), based in Fisher Hall. Previously, he held faculty roles at Yale NUS College, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore, and the Department of Politics at Princeton University. His academic journey includes a PhD in Government from Harvard University and a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) from Balliol College, Oxford.
His research focuses on political ethics, executive power, and state secrecy, employing historical and comparative methodologies. Notable works include Secrets and Leaks: The Dilemma of State Secrecy (Princeton UP, 2014), recognized with the Louis Brownlow Award and Myres S. McDougal Prize, and The Progressive Maharaja: Sir Madhava Rao’s Hints on the Art and Science of Government (Oxford UP), nominated for Best Book of the Year by the Carnegie Endowment. He is currently completing The Birth of Indian Liberalism.
His scholarly contributions bridge theoretical and empirical analyses of governance, ethics, and power dynamics in both historical and modern contexts.
