Rafiq Islam

Rafiq Islam is a Research Fellow at the University of Sydney's School of Life and Environmental Sciences. His work focuses on enhancing livestock productivity and farmer livelihoods through integrated forage-livestock systems, leveraging sensors and digital tools for sustainable agriculture. He holds a BSc (Hons), MSc in Animal Nutrition, and a PhD in Ruminant Nutrition & Forage Utilisation.

Research interests include forage-based livestock systems, thermal stress mitigation in cattle, and precision livestock farming. Current projects include DairyUp-Feedbase (focusing on intensive dairy systems) and studies on beef cattle resilience to climate extremes. He advises students on topics such as heat stress monitoring and forage utilization.

Publications span forage management strategies, sensor-based livestock monitoring, and climate-adaptive agricultural practices. His work bridges theoretical modeling with practical applications, contributing to both academic discourse and real-world agricultural challenges.

Grants include research on forage rape management and feed efficiency in automatic milking systems. He collaborates with institutions like the Sydney Institute of Agriculture and has contributed to projects in Australia, Argentina, and Bangladesh.
