Dr. Gregory Penner is a Professor and U of S Centennial Enhancement Chair in Ruminant Nutritional Physiology at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Agriculture and Bioresources, Department of Animal and Poultry Science. He holds a B.S.A. (2004), M.Sc. (2006), and Ph.D. (2009) from the University of Saskatchewan and University of Alberta, respectively. His research focuses on enhancing cattle health and productivity through nutritional strategies targeting gastrointestinal function, forage utilization, and automated milking systems. He has secured $7.4M as PI and $5.1M as co-investigator in grants, published over 110 peer-reviewed papers, and trained 26 undergraduates, 17 M.Sc., 5 Ph.D. students, and 4 postdoctoral fellows.
Research interests include ruminant nutritional physiology, beef/dairy cattle nutrition, and gastrointestinal health. Key awards include the Canadian Society of Animal Science Young Scientist Award (2013), American Society of Animal Science Early Career Research Award (2017), and 2019 Lallemand Research Excellence Award. He teaches courses like Advanced Ruminant Nutrition and leads the Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence. His work emphasizes sustainable production systems and has global collaborations.
