Raf Houben

Raf Houben is a Lecturer at the School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), and Manager of the Post Graduate Program Compliance & Integrity Management under the Center for Executive Education. He holds a Master's degree in International and Business Law from Leiden University.

Research Interests: His research focuses on the effectiveness of financial laws, compliance frameworks, and integrity management in financial markets, integrating legal sociology and regulatory theory. Current projects include a dissertation on this topic at the VU Law Academy.

Selected Publications: He co-edited the Handbook of Compliance & Integrity Management: Theory and Practice (2017) and authored chapters on financial regulation, market abuse, and duty of care. His 2018 chapter on financial sector rewards and bonuses highlights compliance challenges.

Teaching and Professional Roles: Raf has taught courses on Financial Markets Regulation, Supervisory Law, AML/CFT Law, and Legal Sociology. He previously worked as a compliance professional, financial regulatory lawyer, and supervisor at De Nederlandsche Bank for 10 years and now serves as a financial regulatory law/compliance expert at PGGM.
