Nkechikwu Azinge

Dr. Nkechikwu Azinge is a Lecturer in Business and Commercial Law at Lancaster University's Department of Law (Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences). He previously taught at the University of Warwick and the University of Lincoln. His research focuses on anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CFT) law, particularly compliance challenges in African countries. Azinge has authored a monograph on AML/CFT in emerging economies and is editing a volume on global AML regulation. He also founded the Global South Dialogue on Economic Crime to foster interdisciplinary collaboration. His teaching includes Principles of Commercial Law and International Business Law courses. Azinge holds a PhD in Law from the University of Warwick and is a member of the Nigerian Bar.

Research Interests: Azinge’s work bridges legal frameworks and global financial governance, examining how African nations navigate international AML/CFT standards amid sanctions and geopolitical pressures. He explores the role of critical reporting actors (e.g., lawyers, high-value dealers) in CFT regimes. Recent projects include analyzing the impact of blacklisting on developing countries and advocating for sickle cell disease awareness through his NGO, Sickle Cell Aid Foundation (SCAF).

Publications: Key works include Regulating and Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (2021) and contributions to the Journal of Banking Regulation and African Journal of Legal Studies. He is also co-editing a 2024 volume on sickle cell disease in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Grants & Engagement: Azinge emphasizes stakeholder engagement, leading initiatives like the Africa Research Hub and participating in global conferences on financial crime and public health.
