Dr Rachele Salvatelli is a Research Fellow at Insights North East, leading the Health & Wellbeing theme. Previously, she worked at Newcastle University's Population Health Sciences Institute. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of York, focusing on fat body positive narratives. Her work addresses social determinants of health, sociology of embodiment, and qualitative methodologies. She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy with teaching experience in research methods and social sciences.
Research Interests: Rachele explores fat studies, narrative methodologies, and the sociology of health/illness through qualitative lenses. Her projects include studying Long Covid impacts, student experiences during lockdowns, and embodied resistance narratives. She employs participatory and ethnographic approaches, emphasizing marginalized voices.
Collaborations & Projects: She collaborates on the NIHR-funded IDEAS project evaluating healthcare innovations. Recent work includes co-editing Fat Studies publications and analyzing cultural representations of fatness. Her research contributes to UN SDG goals around health equity and education quality.
