Jeannine A. Gailey

Jeannine A. Gailey is a Professor of Sociology at Texas Christian University (TCU), affiliated with the AddRan College of Liberal Arts and the Department of Sociology & Anthropology. She holds a Ph.D. (2005), MA (2002), and BA (2000) from the University of Akron and Mount Union College, respectively. Her research focuses on the Sociology of the Body, Fat Studies, and Gender and Sexuality, examining intersections of stigma, cultural narratives, and social inequality.

Key publications include her 2014 monograph The Hyper(in)visible Fat Woman and co-editing the 2021 volume Fat Oppression around the World, which explores global fat studies through intersectional and interdisciplinary lenses. Her work has appeared in Feminism & Psychology, Fat Studies, and Qualitative Research.

Dr. Gailey’s research emphasizes critical analyses of fat stigma, body politics, and cultural representations. Her recent projects address fat activism, cross-cultural comparisons of body norms, and the medicalization of fatness in health discourse.
