Rachele Girardi

Dr Rachele Girardi is a Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Greenwich, affiliated with the School of Law and Criminology under the Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences. Her work intersects queer theory, carceral geography, and critical analyses of prisons.

• Education: PhD in Law (2025, Greenwich); MA in Criminology and Criminal Psychology (Greenwich); BA in Social Sciences (VUB, Brussels).

Rachele's research focuses on queer resistance, gender and sexuality in carceral spaces, and prison abolition. Her recent article examines gender dynamics and agency in English women's prisons through document analysis. She actively presents at critical theory conferences, including the London Conference in Critical Thought 2025.

She teaches the module The Psychology of Crime and Justice in the UK at the Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA) in London and collaborates with networks like the Carceral Geography Working Group. Her advocacy includes supporting trans rights and co-signing feminist statements against carceral policies.
