Liat Ben-Moshe is Associate Professor of Criminology, Law and Justice at the University of Illinois Chicago. Her scholarship examines the intersections of incarceration, disability, and abolition through critical prison studies and mad studies frameworks. She directs the Criminology, Law and Justice program and holds affiliations with Disability Studies.
Her award-winning book 'Decarcerating Disability' analyzes deinstitutionalization movements as precursors to prison abolition. Current projects examine carceral ableism, racialized pathologization, and feminist abolitionist futures through community-engaged research.
