Kolleen Duley

Kolleen Duley is an Assistant Professor of Gender & Women’s Studies at SUNY Plattsburgh and a practicing attorney advocating for justice for incarcerated individuals in New York State. She holds a Ph.D. in Gender Studies (2018) and a J.D. (2012) from UCLA, with specializations in Critical Race Studies and Public Interest Law.

• Education: Ph.D. (2018) and M.A. (2008) in Gender/Women’s Studies from UCLA; J.D. (2012) from UCLA School of Law; B.A.s in Feminist and Community Studies (2004) from UC Santa Cruz.

Her research critiques gender-responsive prison reform, links racial criminalization to carceral abolition, and explores bodily survival strategies in prisons. She is contracted with UNC Press to write Theorizing in the Flesh: Queer Carceral Monstrosities and Transformative Abolition Praxis, analyzing how incarcerated people navigate abject practices.

Recent Publications demonstrate her focus on carceral critique, intersectional analysis of violence, and queer abolition praxis. She actively collaborates with incarcerated communities and prioritizes shrinking the carceral state through direct engagement with those impacted.

Kolleen resides in the Adirondack Mountains on an organic farm, raising the next generation of feminist activists.
