Dr. Rachel Walsh is an Associate Teaching Professor in the English Department and Interim Director of International Studies at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), part of the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD in Literature and Cultural Studies from Stony Brook University and a BA (summa cum laude) in English from BGSU. Her research focuses on multiethnic U.S. literatures and transnational works addressing intergenerational traumas of settler-colonialism, slavery, apartheid, and U.S. imperialism. Recent work examines neoliberalism, post-9/11 border control, and white supremacist movements. She teaches courses such as Global Migration and Memory in Contemporary World Literature and The Fires of These Times: From James Baldwin to BLM.

Research Interests: Dr. Walsh’s scholarship bridges literary analysis with critical studies of colonialism, border politics, and systemic oppression. Her work engages with South African apartheid literature, contemporary transnational narratives of anti-Asian violence, and the intersections of globalization and racial capitalism. She has published in journals like Contemporary Literature, Twentieth-Century Literature, and Society and Space: Environment and Planning D.
Teaching and Engagement: Beyond academia, she is an avid cyclist, ambivalent runner, and lead vocalist in the Columbus band Dad Bod Date Night Mix. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes coalition-building through literature and critical pedagogy.
