Heath Diehl is a Teaching Professor in the English Department at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), with an affiliate role in the Honors College. He holds a Ph.D. in English from BGSU (2000) and a B.A. in English and Communication (with Honors) from Bluffton College (1995). His research focuses on addiction narratives, trauma representation, LGBTQ+ literature, feminist theory, and postmodern literature. Diehl teaches courses such as Introduction to Literature, Contemporary Drama, and Critical Thinking in the Honors College.
His notable works include Addiction, Representation and the Experimental Novel, 1985–2015 (2020) and Wasted: Performing Addiction in America (2016). His research explores intersections between literature, media, and cultural identity, with a focus on queering narratives, disability representation, and gender dynamics in popular culture.
Diehl has received prestigious awards including the College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Teaching Award (2021) and recognition in Who’s Who Among North American Educators. He actively serves on boards for the Wood County Humane Society, Black Swamp Players, and Northwest Ohio Community Shares. His service roles include Ombudsperson for the English Department and Honors College, and advisor to multiple student organizations like Friends of the Wood County Humane Society and Lady Parts: Women in Comedy.
