Rachel S. Kowal is a Clinical Professor of Business Law and Deputy Director of the Business & Society Program Area at New York University's Leonard N. Stern School of Business. She joined Stern in 1987 and has held multiple administrative roles, including Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Associate Director of the Markets, Ethics and Law Program, and Director of the Citi Program in Leadership and Ethics. She earned her J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and a B.A. in History from Cornell University.
Her research focuses on social entrepreneurship, sustainable business practices, and business law. She teaches courses such as Law, Business & Society; Professional Responsibility; and Sustainability Consulting in Costa Rica. She is a member of the New York and Connecticut Bars, with prior legal experience in tax and bankruptcy law at the IRS and U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Awarded for teaching excellence, she emphasizes ethics and leadership in her instruction. She contributes to academic initiatives like the Daniel P. Paduano Faculty Research Symposium in Business Ethics.
