Rachel Payne serves as the Department Chair of Culture, Arts and Literatures and Associate Professor of Spanish at the University of Saint Joseph. She also directs the Study Abroad Program and has been with USJ since 2009.

Professor Payne's research focuses on Spanish language and literature within broader cultural contexts. Her work explores linguistic structures, literary traditions, and cultural identity across Spanish-speaking communities. As Department Chair, she oversees academic programs spanning multiple humanities disciplines including Spanish, English, Art History, and Women's Studies.
As Study Abroad Program Director, Professor Payne has developed international educational pathways with particular emphasis on Spanish-speaking countries. Her leadership has expanded global learning opportunities for USJ students across various academic disciplines.
Professor Payne has held dual administrative roles since joining USJ in 2009, demonstrating her commitment to both academic excellence and international education. Her expertise in language pedagogy informs both her teaching responsibilities and program development initiatives.
