Dr. Rachel Hatchard is a Senior Lecturer specializing in language disorders across the lifespan, with research focusing on aphasia in adults and developmental language disorders in children. At Manchester Metropolitan University, she employs construction-based approaches to spoken language pathology and cognitive linguistic frameworks.
Her research investigates:
- Language processing in acquired neurological conditions
- Intervention strategies for developmental disorders
- Construction grammar applications in clinical contexts
- Assessment methodologies for speech pathologies
Professional leadership includes serving as Chair of the British Aphasiology Society (since 2019) and representing BAS on the UK Stroke Forum Steering Group (2018-2020). She maintains memberships in the UK Cognitive Linguistics Association, International Cognitive Linguistics Association, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
