Rachel Fowler is a Senior Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), affiliated with the School of Allied Health and Social Care within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Social Care. She serves as Course Leader for the Step Up to Social Work course and the PG Dip Professional Social Work Practice. Her roles include module tutoring across Cambridge, Chelmsford, and Peterborough campuses.
Background: Rachel’s career spans social work in child safeguarding, youth justice, and substance misuse practice. She previously worked in residential children’s homes, Youth Offending Services, and the Probation Service, where she developed a volunteer mentor program for at-risk youth. Her expertise includes Multisystemic Therapy and contextual safeguarding with adolescents.
Research focuses on shame’s impact in social work, practitioner emotional responses to risk assessments, and addressing racism in student placements through white allyship. She emphasizes critical reflection and theory accessibility in social work education.
