Rachel Cresswell is a Departmental Lecturer in Ecclesiastical History at the University of Oxford's Faculty of Theology and Religion, affiliated with Christ Church college. She completed her DPhil in Theology at Oxford (2020), an MPhil in Ecclesiastical History, and a BA in History from Durham University. Previously, she taught Theology and History for Fordham University's London program and Stanford University's Oxford program, and held a Junior Research Fellowship at Blackfriars (2021–2024). She currently serves as the Faculty's Director of Graduate Professional Development.
Her research centers on Latin Christianity in the central Middle Ages, specializing in Anselm of Canterbury, biblical reception in monastic theology, medieval liturgy, and atonement theories. She emphasizes monastic spirituality and theological discourse in historical contexts.
