Rachael Blakey is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of EDI (Student Facing) at the School of Law, University of Warwick. Her research focuses on family law, socio-legal methods, and access to justice, with a particular emphasis on family mediation and its role in modern family justice systems. She is currently converting her PhD research—which examined the purpose and structural challenges of family mediation—into a monograph. Additionally, she is conducting quantitative analysis of legal aid statistics related to family mediation. Her work addresses recent reforms that limited legal aid for private family law disputes, advocating for equitable access to justice frameworks. Rachael also explores gender dynamics in legal contexts, feminist theory, and broader family dispute resolution mechanisms.
Her research interests extend to public information accessibility for unrepresented individuals in family law matters. She is open to discussing her PhD findings prior to formal publication. Office location: S1.01, Social Sciences Building, Coventry CV4 7AL, UK.
