Sevasti Maramis is a Senior Lecturer (Practice) in the Faculty of Law at Monash University, teaching the Family Law Assistance Program and the Master of Applied Law (Family Law) at the College of Law. She joined Monash in 2010 as a casual and was appointed to her full-time position in 2018 after 28 years of legal practice.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts/Law from Monash University (1989), completed Professional Practice at Springvale Legal Service, and trained as an Independent Children's Lawyer, Mediator (Victorian Bar), and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (Relationships Australia).
Her research centers on cultural competency for lawyers, family law, and family violence, driven by decades of frontline experience serving disadvantaged clients through legal clinics and Victoria Legal Aid. She integrates practical advocacy skills with systemic justice reform perspectives.
She received the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Industry and Community Education Programs (Community) in 2022 for collaborative educational initiatives.
Maramis mentors law students through experiential clinical programs, emphasizing practical skill development in family law contexts. She established Monash's Family Law Assistance Program, expanding access to justice while training future practitioners.
Her leadership in clinical legal education builds on pioneering work establishing Victoria Legal Aid's first duty lawyer service at Dandenong Family Court, now operationalized through Monash's community-facing educational model.
