Emily Singh

Emily Singh is a Lecturer (Practice) at Monash University's Faculty of Law and currently serves as Principal Lawyer and Practice Manager (acting) at Monash Law Clinics. With extensive frontline experience in administrative law (social security, refugee, immigration) and social justice advocacy across Australia and the UK, she integrates direct legal service, education, and systemic reform to advance access to justice.

Her research focuses on:

• Social security and social protection law/policy with emphasis on family violence intersections
• Trauma-informed and culturally safe legal service delivery models
• Clinical legal education embedding community empowerment theory
• Refugee law and gender-based persecution claims
• Automated decision-making in public administration
• Rights-based approaches to economic justice systems

She actively supervises students in Professional Practice units (LAW5050/LAW4328) and the Monash Tax Clinic (LAW4813), involving them in full-scope representation across criminal, family violence, social security, immigration, and tax cases—particularly for marginalized clients experiencing financial abuse or identity theft. Her policy work shapes submissions to government committees on administrative review reforms and legal assistance funding.

As an active member of Economic Justice Australia and Australian Lawyers for Human Rights, she drives partnerships between universities, legal professionals, and community sectors to innovate justice delivery. Her work directly supports UN Sustainable Development Goals for social protection, economic rights, and public law accountability.
