Dr. RICHARD TWINE is a Reader in Sociology at Edge Hill University's School of History, Geography & Social Sciences. Previously, he spent a decade at Lancaster University. His research focuses on critical animal studies, environmental sociology, climate crisis ethics, and gender studies. He holds a PhD from Manchester Metropolitan University (2002), an MA from the University of Essex (1996), and a BA from the University of Stirling (1995).
Key research areas include the intersection of human-animal relations with climate change, ecofeminist theory, and vegan advocacy. He leads the Centre for Human Animal Studies and has authored over 30 publications, including the 2024 book The Climate Crisis and Other Animals. Recent work critiques the Dublin Declaration's impact on meat industry influence and science policy.
He co-led the Pathways to Veganism project (2018–2019), exploring effective messaging for dietary transitions. His work intersects with UN SDGs related to sustainable consumption and climate action.
