Catherine Duxbury is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of East Anglia, specializing in the intersections of animal studies, gender, and environmental sociology. Her research critically examines human-animal relations through historical and sociological lenses, with a focus on laboratory practices, animal experimentation ethics, and queer/feminist critiques of anthropocentrism.
She holds a PhD from the University of Essex (2017) titled Animals, Science and Gender: Animal Experimentation in Britain, 1947-1965, complemented by an M.A. in Sociology (2007) and a B.Sc. in Visual Arts (2005). Her teaching excellence has been recognized through Student Choice Awards for 'Teaching Excellence and Support' (2017) and 'Best Module' (2016).
Research interests include green criminology, environmental justice, and the sociocultural implications of meat consumption. She advocates for interdisciplinary pedagogy, emphasizing knowledge co-production between humans and nonhuman entities.
Recent work explores 'disabled ecologies' and vegan advocacy for species justice, as well as historical analysis of nonhuman animals in Cold War-era biological weapons testing. Her publications span peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and public engagement platforms like The Conversation.
