Qiang Zhang is an Associate Professor of AI in Cardiovascular Imaging at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Radcliffe Department of Medicine and the Big Data Institute. He holds British Heart Foundation Intermediate and CRE Transition Fellowships. His research focuses on advancing cardiovascular MRI using generative AI, such as Virtual Native Enhancement (VNE), to eliminate the need for contrast agents, improving scan efficiency and safety. He also develops automated image processing pipelines for big data analysis and AI-driven cardiac biomarkers to enhance clinical research.
His work has been recognized through awards like the SCMR Early Career Award. He leads the Zhang Group and collaborates with the Piechnik and Ferreira Groups, focusing on AI applications in MRI. Key publications include studies on contrast-free MRI techniques and prognostication in heart failure. His patents cover medical image enhancement and MRI protocol validation.
Zhang’s research bridges AI and clinical practice, aiming to make cardiac imaging faster, cheaper, and more accessible. He actively contributes to journals like Circulation and collaborates internationally, with funding from the British Heart Foundation and NIHR Oxford BRC.
