Qian Xudong

Dr. Qian Xudong is a Dean’s Chair Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He holds leadership roles as Deputy Head (Administration and Finance) of CEE, Director of the Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience Institute (CFI Singapore), and Director of the Centre for Offshore Research and Engineering (CORE). His research focuses on structural digital twins, fracture mechanics, fatigue assessment, and composite materials. He has pioneered methodologies for offshore engineering and material science applications.

Education: BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering (NUS, 2000), PhD in Civil Engineering (NUS, 2005). Prior roles include Post-doctoral Research Associate at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2006–2007).

Research Interests: Structural digital twins, fatigue/fracture in large-scale structures, composite materials, floating structures, additive manufacturing for metals, and offshore system integrity. He has led over 20 research projects funded by ASTAR, NRF, and industry partners like Keppel.

Awards: 2024 IES Engineering Achievement Award, 2019 Nishino Prize, and multiple Singapore Accreditation Council awards (Gold 2020, Silver 2017, Bronze 2016).

Advising & Grants: Supervised 20+ PhD/MSc students and post-doctoral researchers. Current projects include ENFORCE (offshore wind systems) and Smart Floating Structures for Coastal Protection (CFISG Team). Collaborates with industry leaders like ADMA and China Harbour Engineering.

Labs & Teams: Directorships at CFI Singapore, CORE, and CAMS. Oversees strategic partnerships and technology translation in coastal resilience and advanced materials.
