Qi Song serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Samueli School of Engineering, University of California, Irvine. Their research focuses on the discovery and development of novel low-dimensional quantum materials through atomic-scale manipulation techniques.
Dr. Song's research interests span quantum materials science, with particular emphasis on atomic-scale synthesis, molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), and advanced characterization methods including angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and resonant x-ray scattering (RXS). Their work explores emergent quantum phenomena such as superconductivity and quantum magnetism with potential applications in quantum computing and next-generation magnetic devices.
The Song Lab, officially launching in Spring 2025, is now part of UC Irvine's ChAMP program (Graduate Program in Chemical, Applied, and Materials Physics). The lab is actively recruiting postdocs, Ph.D. students, undergraduates, and visiting researchers to join their interdisciplinary research efforts focused on quantum material discovery.
