Prof Prince is a Professor at the University of Cumbria's School of Education, specializing in Outdoor and Environmental Education. His research focuses on place-based learning, sustainability education, and adventure pedagogy. He has contributed extensively to curriculum development in outdoor education, particularly in marginalized urban areas and natural landscapes like Morecambe Bay and the Picos de Europa mountains. Prince has pioneered frameworks for integrating nature-based curricula and addressing barriers to outdoor participation for marginalized groups such as LGBTQ+ students and menstruating individuals.
His work spans over three decades, with key contributions in sail training pedagogy, rewilding education, and the impact of digital technologies on outdoor research. He co-founded the Outdoor Learning Research Hub and has advised on policy reforms in primary outdoor education. Prince's 2025 studies explore postdigital methodologies and AI's role in adventure education. He has authored the International Handbook of Outdoor Studies and edited seminal works on experiential learning theory.
