Prashanth Vallabhajosyula, MD, MS is a Professor of Cardiac Surgery at Yale School of Medicine and serves as the Surgical Director of the Aortic Institute at the Yale New Haven Health Heart & Vascular Center. He is also the Associate Program Director for the Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency program. His clinical practice focuses on the entire spectrum of heart surgeries including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve surgery, and heart transplantation, with a particular emphasis on endovascular and open surgeries of the aorta.
Dr. Vallabhajosyula received his MD from Yale University School of Medicine in 2002 and his MS in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry from Yale University in 1998.
Dr. Vallabhajosyula's research primarily focuses on aortic diseases, transplantation immunology, and innovative surgical techniques. His work spans from clinical outcomes research to novel diagnostic approaches using extracellular vesicles for monitoring transplant rejection. He has pioneered several procedures at Yale, including introducing pulmonary thromboendarterectomy to the institution. His research demonstrates a strong commitment to improving outcomes for patients with complex aortic pathologies through both surgical innovation and translational research.
Analysis of Dr. Vallabhajosyula's recent publications reveals a consistent focus on aortic diseases, particularly thoracoabdominal aortic pathologies and aortic dissections. His work combines clinical outcomes research with innovative diagnostic approaches, especially in the area of extracellular vesicles for monitoring transplant rejection. There is also a growing interest in the application of genetic testing for patients with thoracic aortic aneurysms and understanding sex differences in cardiovascular referral patterns for connective tissue disorders.
Dr. Vallabhajosyula is actively involved in several clinical trials:
- Anticoagulation for New-Onset Post-Operative Atrial Fibrillation after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
- CorMatrix Cor TRICUSPID ECM Valve Replacement Study
As Surgical Director of the Aortic Institute, Dr. Vallabhajosyula leads a multidisciplinary team that coordinates and integrates various services for patients with aortic diseases. He emphasizes the importance of breaking down traditional specialty boundaries to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex aortic conditions.
