Dr. Yoshiya Toyoda serves as Professor of Surgery and William Maul Measey Chair in Surgery at Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. He holds multiple leadership positions at Temple University Hospital including Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery, Surgical Director of Thoracic Transplantation, and Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support. Additionally, he serves as Physician Executive for the Temple Heart & Vascular Institute.
Dr. Toyoda's research focuses on myocardial and pulmonary protection/preservation, cardiac anatomy and function, thoracic transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support. His clinical expertise spans coronary artery bypass, valve repair/replacement procedures, aortic surgery, adult congenital cardiac surgery, pulmonary thromboendarterectomy, heart and lung transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support including ventricular assist devices and ECMO.
His recent publications highlight his work in transplant patient care and outcomes, with features in regional media about patient success stories. Dr. Toyoda has been consistently recognized as a Top Doctor in Thoracic & Cardiac Surgery by Philadelphia magazine from 2016-2025.
