Poul Poder is an Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology, University of Copenhagen. His affiliations include the Department of Sociology and the former Centre for Resolution of International Conflicts (CRIC) at the Department of Political Science. He holds a PhD (2004) and two MAs (1994 and 1992) in sociology and cultural studies.
His research focuses on sociological theory, emotions, organizational behavior, conflict, violence, and personal life. Notable projects include studies on street violence funded by the Velux Foundation and contributions to conflict resolution frameworks. He teaches courses on sociology, emotions, organizational theory, and modern sociological theory at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Poder has coordinated research groups like 'Knowledge, Uncertainty and Trust' and led initiatives such as the CRIC deputy directorship. His work appears in journals like Current Sociology and Peace Research, and he frequently engages with media and conferences on topics like courage in leadership and modern love dynamics.
Grants include a 5.9 million DKK Velux Foundation grant for street violence research (2014–2017) and contributions to CRIC's strategic conflict research (2013–2016). He has reviewed for Oxford University Press, Routledge, and journals like Human Relations.
Poder advises students across BA, MA, and PhD levels, focusing on sociological methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches. His recent media engagements include podcasts on workplace courage and love's societal role, reflecting his commitment to bridging academic and public discourse.
