Dr. Pooya Hamdi is a Senior Researcher at the Department of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology, RWTH Aachen University, Germany. He leads the Rock Mechanics Group and has been actively involved in national and international projects since 2018.

His research focuses on rock mechanics, numerical modeling, and geohazard assessment for underground infrastructure. Key projects include PRECODE (excavation disturbance zones), LADY (landslide dam stability), and paraglacial slope failure analysis in Alaska and Switzerland.
Recent publications highlight his work on 3D numerical modeling of regional stress, freeze-thaw effects on rock toughness, and hydro-mechanical coupling in crystalline rocks. He supervises MSc/BSc theses and teaches courses on underground excavation, slope stability, and field excursions.
