Platon Alexandru-Florin is a Professor of Medieval History, modern social history, historical anthropology, and history of ideas at the Faculty of History, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi, Romania. He has held visiting professorships at the University of Montpellier (2006-2016), University of Bourgogne (Dijon, 2005), and University of Angers (1998, 2001). His career includes roles as Dean of the Faculty of History (2004-2012), President of the Commission for International Relations at his university (2012-2019), and key positions in national and international academic councils.
He earned his PhD in History (1996) and has conducted research at institutions including the University of Illinois, University of Nottingham, and multiple German and French universities. His research focuses on medieval European culture, historical anthropology, political thought, and Jewish studies. Notable awards include the Chevalier des Palmes Académiques (France, 2002) and the A.D. Xenopol Prize (Romania, 1999).
His publications span medieval political symbolism, social history, historiography, and the Holocaust in Romania. He has actively promoted academic exchange through leadership roles in international committees and collaborative research projects across Europe.
