Dr. Piya Pal Lapinski is an Associate Professor in the English Department at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). She holds a B.A. from Presidency College (University of Calcutta, India), and an M.A./Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her research focuses on British 18th- and 19th-century literature, with specialties in Romanticism, Victorian Studies, and Postcolonial Theory. She examines themes of Orientalism, empire, geopolitics, and visual/material culture, including studies of Turkey in British literary history and fashion theory.
Dr. Lapinski teaches undergraduate and graduate courses such as British Literary Surveys, Postcolonial Studies, and Poststructuralist Theory. Her scholarship includes monographs on exoticism in 19th-century fiction and co-edited volumes on Byron's political thought. She is currently completing a book project on Istanbul and the Ottoman Empire in Romantic and Victorian cultural imagination (1800–1922).
Her work bridges literary analysis with interdisciplinary themes, including film aesthetics, opera studies, and material culture. Teaching responsibilities span critical theory, British literature, and cultural studies.
