Dr. Piya Chatterjee serves as an Assistant Professor of Practice and Intervention Specialist at the LeBron James Family Foundation School of Education, The University of Akron. Previously, she held roles as Senior Research Associate at Summit Education Initiative in Akron and as a State Board-Certified educator in India.

Her research centers on culturally responsive approaches to educational equity and inclusion, with emphasis on intervention specialist preparedness and outcomes for students with exceptionalities. She investigates collaborative models between schools and community stakeholders to address systemic barriers, particularly through Out of School Time (OST) programming that extends equity-focused learning opportunities for PK-12 students beyond traditional classroom settings. Her work bridges data-driven evaluation with culturally sensitive implementation strategies to close achievement gaps.
Dr. Chatterjee maintains active partnerships with community organizations and OST providers to develop inclusive educational frameworks, focusing on practical applications of research to improve outcomes for marginalized student populations.
