Dr. Pingli Li is an Associate Professor and Head of Department of Accounting at Southampton Business School, University of Southampton. She has held leadership roles including School PhD Director (2020-2023) and Programme Lead for MSc Accounting and Management (2017-2020). Her research focuses on management control systems, corporate governance, and healthcare performance measurement, with notable projects commissioned by CIMA, ICAEW, and China's Ministry of Finance. She leads research groups including the Centre for Research in Accounting, Accountability & Governance and the Centre for Accounting Education.
Research interests include sustainability reporting for SMEs, impact of technology on accountants' roles, and board effectiveness. She has supervised PhD students in preparing sustainability reports for SMEs and welcomes applicants in her research areas. Her work bridges academic rigor with practitioner impact through reports for policymakers and professional bodies.
Teaching experience spans undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Management Accounting, Corporate Finance, and International Accounting. She has served as external examiner at Imperial College London, Cranfield University, and others. Her editorial roles include Associate Editor of Management Accounting Studies and Board Member of Qualitative Research in Accounting & Management.
