Pietro Bianchi is an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida, specializing in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of Marxism, Lacanian Psychoanalysis, and Cinema Studies. His work critically examines cinema as an ideological formation, focusing on visual representation, desire, and structural analysis. He is the author of Jacques Lacan and Cinema: Imaginary, Gaze, Formalisation (Routledge, 2017), which explores Lacanian theorization of visuality. His current book project, 'Eisenstein Occupies Wall Street,' investigates contemporary capitalist visualization strategies. Bianchi also actively contributes as a film critic to various journals and media outlets.
His research interests include psychoanalytic film theory, critical theory, film history, and the intersection of cinema with political economy. Notable projects address the representation of capitalism, the relationship between Deleuze and Lacan, and the application of Marxist frameworks to cinematic analysis. He frequently engages with avant-garde and auteur cinema, analyzing works by Godard, Eisenstein, and contemporary filmmakers like Jia Zhang-Ke and Michael Haneke.
Bianchi’s publications span over 15 years, with recent work focusing on posthumanism in cinema, the critique of racial representation, and the philosophical underpinnings of film form. His work consistently bridges psychoanalytic theory with materialist approaches to culture, offering innovative readings of both classical and contemporary cinematic texts.
