Pierre-Yves Monjal is an Associate Professor of Public Law at the University of Tours, holding the Jean-Monnet European Chair. He serves as Co-Director of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Legal Research (IRJI, EA 7496) and Director of the European-Japanese network NihonEuropA. Additionally, he holds public office as 3rd Deputy Mayor of Montrichard-Val de Cher in charge of social action and France services.
His research spans European Union Law, Public Law, and Japanese Law with specialized focus on European economic law, competition law, law of services of general interest, inter-municipal law, and EU external economic relations. His work uniquely bridges European and Japanese legal frameworks through comparative analysis of institutional structures and economic regulations.
Professor Monjal has been awarded the prestigious Jean Monnet Chair by the European Union. He also serves as Editorial Director of the European Union Law Review, contributing to scholarly discourse in EU legal scholarship.
He leads the Institute of Interdisciplinary Legal Research (IRJI) and the NihonEuropA network, which foster transnational collaboration between European and Japanese legal scholars through joint research initiatives, publications, and academic exchanges focused on comparative legal studies and economic regulation.
