J.H.H. Weiler is a University Professor and Joseph Straus Professor of Law at New York University School of Law, holding the European Union Jean Monnet Chaired Professorship. He is Director of the Jean Monnet Center for International and Regional Economic Law and Justice. His academic journey includes studies at Sussex University (BA 1976), Cambridge University (LLB 1977, LLM 1982), and a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence (1982). Previously, he held professorships at Harvard Law School and the University of Michigan.
His research focuses on comparative constitutional law, European integration, WTO law, and the intersection of religion and law. Notable works include The Constitution of Europe, Un Europa Cristiana, and a novella Der Fall Steinmann. He teaches courses on international trade law, the EU legal system, and the trial of Jesus from a legal perspective.
Prof. Weiler’s academic leadership includes former roles as professor and President of the European University Institute. The Jean Monnet Center, under his direction, explores international and EU economic law through fellowships and research initiatives.
