Photini Pazartzis

Professor Photini Pazartzis holds the Constantine G. Karamanlis Chair of Hellenic and European Studies at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, since January 2023. She is also a Professor of Public International Law at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and Director of the Athens Public International Law Center (AthensPIL). Her roles include Vice-Chair (2019–2021) and Chair (2021–2022) of the UN Human Rights Committee, member of the OSCE Court of Conciliation and Arbitration, and expert for the OSCE Moscow Mechanism. She has been a Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge and lectured globally at institutions like Oxford, the European University Institute, and the Hague Academy of International Law.

Education: PhD (Doctorat d’Etat) from the University of Paris-II Panthéon-Sorbonne (awarded Paul Guggenheim Prize) and graduate of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Research focuses on public international law, dispute resolution mechanisms, law of the sea, human rights, and international criminal law. She contributes to editorial boards of journals such as the Polish Yearbook of International Law and has led initiatives like the ILA Study Group on Rules of Interpretation (2015–2020).

Professional affiliations include presidency of the European Society of International Law (2019–2021), leadership in the Hellenic Branch of the International Law Association, and advisory roles for the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her teaching spans courses on international law at Fletcher, including 'Law of the Sea' and 'Reparation in International Law.'

Labs/Teams: Directs the Athens Public International Law Center (AthensPIL), fostering research and dialogue in international legal frameworks.
