Phoebe L. Stewart

Phoebe L. Stewart is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University. She also serves as Vice Chair of Educational Programs in the Department of Pharmacology. Her research focuses on applying cryo-electron microscopy to study viral structures and their interactions with host factors, particularly adenovirus and engineered oncolytic viruses. Dr. Stewart's work integrates multiple structural methods including X-ray crystallography, NMR, and molecular dynamics to understand viral mechanisms and develop therapeutic strategies against cancer. She holds affiliations with the Cleveland Center for Membrane and Structural Biology and the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Education: AB in Biochemistry (Harvard University), PhD in Chemistry (University of Pennsylvania). Postdoctoral training included cryo-EM at the Wistar Institute and EMBL Heidelberg.

Research interests emphasize viral structure, host-pathogen interactions, and oncolytic virotherapy. Notable projects include structural analysis of adenovirus-complement interactions and designing viruses that evade innate immunity for systemic cancer therapy.
