Phillip Haberkern is an Associate Professor of History at Boston University’s Department of History, where he has been since 2011. He specializes in late medieval and early modern European history, focusing on radical religious change and its commemoration. He teaches courses on the Renaissance, Reformation, religious history, historiography, and pop culture topics like Game of Thrones. He advises graduate students in art history, theology, and religious studies, and coordinates teaching fellow trainings in the department.

Research: His first book, Patron Saint and Prophet: Jan Hus in the Bohemian and German Reformation (2016), explores how the memory of Jan Hus influenced religious reform movements in the 15th and 16th centuries. Current projects include a history of the Bohemian Reformation from 1350–1650 and studies on pedagogical innovation in general education. He has published articles in German History, History Compass, and other journals.
He serves as faculty director of BU’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, supporting student-led research across disciplines.
