Phillip D. Payne serves as Acting Dean and Associate Dean of the Graduate School at Kansas State University, appointed in June 2024. He leads curriculum development, assessment strategies, and program creation initiatives to advance Next-Gen K-State academic innovation while supporting student success and faculty/staff professional development.
His research spans curriculum design, educational assessment, mental wellness in academic settings, job satisfaction dynamics, and transfer student transitions. Dr. Payne maintains active engagement as a researcher, clinician, consultant, and adjudicator for educational institutions and arts organizations nationwide, focusing on practical applications in music education and student development.
Prior to this role, he served as Professor and Chair of Music Education within the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, where he taught undergraduate/graduate courses, supervised student teachers, and managed all operational aspects of the music education program including accreditation leadership and daily administrative functions.
